Hacked or tracked phones

I've seen a few posts on social media talking about checks you can make to see if your phone is being tracked. I've put the codes below, you dial them into the keypad as if you are going to make a phone call and then press dial.

I've tried it on my phone and to my shock there was a number flagged on my phone that I didn't recognise so i've deleted it using the steps below.

A lot of people fear their phone is being tracked and in domestic abuse cases people do monitor phones.

To be sure, if you have real concerns I would always take a trip to your phone provider and get them to look at your phone. I'm no tech expert but the following codes below may help in the first instance.

Make a note of any numbers that get flagged up, or screen shot it so you have a record.

You can always contact the Police if you have concerns that you are being tracked. Some apps allow you to be tracked, Find my phone, apps that track your car, Snap chat locations. Be aware of these apps, the apps are not always sinister but in the case of a relationship breakdown or domestic abuse and violence, you may have concerns.

A word of caution, think to yourself, if I disable the tracking device, will it put me at greater risk? Will they know that i've found out and challenge me?

If you are scared or in immediate danger call the Police.

*#21# - dial

When you dial *#21#, you are, in fact, activating a feature access code that quickly tells you the status of call forwarding for your phone. It's a quick way of seeing what, in the case of this particular 'setting interrogation code,’ your call forwarding settings. That's it, nothing more or less.

*#62# - dial

After dialling *#62#, your phone will display a list of forwarding statuses, including voice call forwarding when unreachable, SMS call forwarding when unreachable, among others. The status for each of them is either Enabled or Disabled.

##002# - dial

What does ##002 do to your phone? Dialing ##002# deactivates any conditional or unconditional call forwarding settings on your account and also deletes any data such as messages or voicemails that were previously diverted to another number.

Dial a USSD code.

One of the more clever ways to check for certain (but not all) spyware is to dial a USSD code on your phone.

Call #21# or #62# and listen for information on whether or not your phone is being tapped.

If calling the code does not return any information, that is a sign that your device is not being tracked.

Type into Google is my phone being monitored

This will give you a list of things to look out for such as a hot phone, lights coming on when you're not using it and the battery draining quickly.
